Loic Menzies

Associate fellow

Loic is an education policy and research specialist.

He has over twenty years' experience in the education and youth sector and strongly believes that society should ensure all children and young people make a fulfilling transition to adulthood.

Loic is a regular commentator on education issues in the media and is frequently called on by government to advise on policy. He has authored numerous influential reports and research studies focusing on educational equity; assessment and accountability; the schools workforce; and the policy making process. He was co-editor of the book “Young People on the Margins" which was published by Routledge in Spring 2021 and is currently finishing his second book, 'How Policy Happens: Understanding the decisions that shape our education system'.

Loic is a Visiting Fellow at Sheffield Institute of Education and a Senior Research Associate in Jesus College Cambridge’s Intellectual Forum.

Among other projects, Loic is Chief Research Officer of CES, a new Nuffield Foundation-funded research institute conducting rigorous reviews of education systems around the world. He previously founded the 'think and action-tank' The Centre for Education and Youth, which he grew and led for 12 years.

Prior to working in research and policy, Loic was a youth worker in Cambridge, a teacher in London, and then a tutor in teacher education at Canterbury Christ Church University. He has also been a school governor and a trustee of a number of youth and social entrepreneurship charities.

Loic is an obsessive rock climber and does much of his thinking about policy whilst clinging to a cliff face.
